Back 2 Earth Wilderness Skills School began as a group of individuals who came together with one goal in mind; that of sharing their love of the Creator, nature and the skills necessary to live as one with nature and our Creator. With that goal in mind the schools mission was developed: "To awaken in each person a desire to obtain and implement balance in themselves and their community; So that through the arts of primitive skills and instinctual awareness of the earth they might discover their Creator given mission; and empower it, body, mind and soul." Back 2 Earth directors and head instructors include Geoff Barnes, Alissa Barnes, and Joe Beardsley. Along with our many various guest instructors, we have dedicated our lives to the study and mastery of primitive wilderness living, thus giving friends, our families and ourselves the ultimate gift of freedom. We have made survival, tracking, awareness, and wilderness living a way of life, seeking out various teachers to continue our own education. Tom Brown Jr. from the Tracker School has been one of our primary teachers and mentors. Some of the other sources of instruction include Jon Young and Frank and Karen Sherwood. Our classes are a precise mixture of lecture, stories, demonstrations, personal mentoring and hands on "dirt time". During the mentoring and dirt time the instructors and volunteers are there to walk you through each skill step by step. Once you have taken a class from Back 2 Earth you have the option of applying to volunteer the next time that class is run. As a volunteer you get more time to train the skills, both through mentoring and dirt time, thus we encourage each student to come back and volunteer the next time that class is held. |
