This workshop is designed to help you understand, in depth, the primitive shelter we refer to as the debris hut. We will all be building our own shelters and sleeping in them overnight. We will go in depth into ways to improve this shelter for warmth and suggest and demonstrate modifications for other climates and conditions.
If you have never slept in a debris hut you built, then this is the workshop for you. The following equipment is recommended:
  • A full size cotton bed sheet or small tarp.
  • A 1 quart water bottle or CamelBack.
  • Eating utensils including a bowl and spoon.
  • Clothing and footwear appropriate to the weather.
  • A water resistant jacket.

All of this equipment should easily fit into a small daypack. We will be walking to the shelter building site, so please come prepared to walk at least 1 to 2 miles.
